Noise canceling doesn't work on my earbud headphones (WF-SP800N)

IMPORTANT: The Noise canceling function is most effective for low frequency (bass) noise, such as the noise made by vehicles or air conditioning, but not all sounds can be completely canceled.

Make sure that the Noise Canceling function is turned on

There are a few ways to check if Noise Canceling is On:

    • Place both earbuds in the charging case, leave them for a few seconds, and then remove them from the charging case.
      • After they are removed from the charging case, the Noise canceling function will be on.
    • While wearing the headphones, tap the touch sensor until you hear Noise canceling.
      • In the default setting, tap the touch sensor to change the Ambient Sound Control function.
        • If your headphones don't switch to the Noise canceling function, try tapping one time quickly (about 0.3 seconds). If the contact time between the touch sensor and finger is too long, the mode switches to Quick Attention mode instead of the Noise canceling function.
        • If you assign the Google Assistant feature to your headphones and you want to use only one unit, use the one with the Google Assistant feature assigned.
    • Change the Noise canceling settings on the Sony | Headphones Connect app.

Replace the earbud tips or arc supporters

Noise-canceling is ineffecive if your earbud headphones don't fit your ears properly. Select the appropriate size earbud tip that minimizes the ambient noise.

Try the earbud sizes in order from the larger size (L) to the smaller size (SS):

    1. To remove the earbuds
When you remove the earbud be careful that you don't pinch the end of the tip.

    2. To remove the arc supporters
When you remove the arc supporters hold the base of the arc. Do not pull the end of the supporter

    3. To attach the arc supporters
Align the protruding part of the headset with the recessed part of the arc supporter (align A illustrated in the image), and firmly insert the arc supporter all the way. Do not attach the arc supporter in a loose or skewed manner.

    5. Notes:

      • You can determine the size based on the number of lines inside the bottom of the earbuds.
        Earbuds (SS, S, M, L)
        SS: 1 line
        S: 2 lines
        M: 3 lines
        L: 4 lines
      • Try a different size, and then check again to see how the Noise Canceling function works.
      • Try different size of earbuds to find the best ones for your Noise Canceling experience.

    6. Make sure that the headphones are attached firmly and the earbuds slide deep into your ears. Rotating it while lighly pulling up the upper part of your ear makes it easier to insert.

Make sure that Adaptive Sound Control is turned off

Check the Adaptive Sound Control settings on the Sony | Headphones Connect app. If Adaptive Sound Control is on, the effects of the Noise Canceling function may become weak. If it's on, we recommend turning it off.

Follow these steps to change the setting on the Sony | Headphones Connect app:

    1. Select the right arrow on the right side of the Status screen.

      Headphones Connect app screen

    2. Move the slide bar of the Adaptive Sound Control setting to OFF.

      1. Adaptive Sound Control: ON
      2. Adaptive Sound Control: OFF

Note: Adaptive Sound Control is a function that detects your actions through an app and automatically switches settings of the Ambient Sound Control. Because of this function, the Noise Canceling function may change to the Adaptive Sound Control function, and make you may feel the noise canceling effect is not sufficient.
