Before You Start

Check the firmware version

If the firmware of your device is version SYS 6.04 or above, you do not need to perform the update.

If you're not sure, it's easy to check which version of firmware you have:

  1. Press the power button of the unit to turn on the system.
  2. Press [OPTIONS].
  3. Press ↑/↓ repeatedly to select "SYSTEM" then press Enter Button.
  4. Press ↑/↓ repeatedly to select "VERSION" then pressEnter Button.

Important Notice

  • After updating, the firmware cannot be reverted to an earlier version.
  • Read the instructions carefully or you could end up damaging your MHC-GT7DW system.
  • Don't turn off the system or disconnect it from power while it's updating.
  • Don't press any buttons, except the ones mentioned in the instructions.
  • Don't use the system or the remote controller during the download and update process.
  • Don't disconnect the power cord before the update is complete, or you could end up causing a system failure.

Download & Install

Updating your MHC-GT7DW over the Internet

We recommend this method as it's the simplest way to update. First set up the equipment, then download the update over the internet to your MHC-GT7DW.

What you need:

  • An active internet connection (using an Ethernet cable)

Set up the equipment:

  1. Connect the MHC-GT7DW to your internet source using an Ethernet cable

Step 1: Install the update

  1. Press Power Button of the unit to turn on the system and wait a few minutes until the "UPDATE" icon is displayed on the display.
  2. Press [OPTIONS].
  3. Press ↑/↓ repeatedly to select "SYSTEM" then press Enter Button.
  4. Press ↑/↓ repeatedly to select "UPDATE" then press Enter Button.
  5. Press ↑/↓ repeatedly to select "VIA NW" then press Enter Button.
  6. Press Enter Button to select "EXEC".
  7. Press ↑/↓ repeatedly to select "YES" then press Enter Button.
  8. Please wait until the download, file copy, and update procedures are completed.
    • Download: the download time will depend on your internet connection
    • File Copy: this step will be followed by an automatic system reboot (about 10 seconds)
    • Software Update: this step will also be followed by an automatic system reboot (about 30 seconds)
    • The Demonstration mode will then start
  9. Press Power Button of the unit again and turn on the system.

Step 2: Confirm that the update was successful

  1. Check the firmware version. If the version number is SYS 6.04, the firmware update was successful.

Troubleshooting

If "Download Error"/"Push POWER" is displayed during the update, the software update failed.

  1. Press the Power Button button and turn the system OFF.
  2. Press the Power Button button again, the system will then turn ON.
  3. Wait about 3 minutes (or until the network connection is complete), then check the display on the system.
  • UPDATE icon is lit.
    • The Software update is NOT completed, but the system is in normal condition.
    • Try the network update once again using the previous steps.
      NOTE: If the update fails again, instead of the network update, please try the software update using the USB flash device procedure.

Update via USB Memory Device and your PC

We recommend you use the Internet to update if you can. If not, you can use this method instead. You'll download the update to your computer, transfer it to a USB memory device, then transfer it to your MHC-GT7DW.

Preparations for Firmware Update

Before downloading the firmware, please ensure that your computer is running one of the following operating systems, and prepare your USB flash drive.

Operating Systems

  • Windows® 10
  • Windows® 8.1
  • Windows® 7 SP1
  • Macintosh® OS X version 10.6 or later version

If you are using Windows® 10/8.1, please use it in desktop mode.
Note: Operation is not guaranteed for all PCs installed with a compatible OS.

Recording Media requirements

USB flash drive : Capacity: more than 256MB

Step 1: Install the update

Download the update to your computer:
  1. Make sure no program other than your internet browser is running.
  2. Read and agree to the terms and conditions on this page.
  3. Download the file to your computer (note the download location for your reference).
    • MHC-GT7DW: MHC16001.UPG [177 MB (186,335,424 bytes)]
Transfer the update files to the USB storage device:
  1. Insert your USB flash drive in a USB slot on your computer.
  2. Format your USB flash drive.
  3. Copy the update file to the ROOT directory of the USB flash drive.

Note: The update will not be performed if the file is not copied to the root directory of the USB device or if the name of the file is modified.

Transfer the update to your player

Plug the USB flash drive into the USB slot of the MHC-GT7DW.

Transfer the update:
  1. Start the MHC-GT7DW by pressing the Power Button button.
  2. Press [OPTIONS].
  3. Press ↑/↓ repeatedly to select "SYSTEM" then press Enter Button.
  4. Press ↑/↓ repeatedly to select "UPDATE" then press Enter Button.
  5. Press ↑/↓ repeatedly to select "VIA USB" then press Enter Button.
  6. Press Enter Button to select "EXEC".
  7. Press ↑/↓ repeatedly to select "YES" then press Enter Button.

    "UPDATING" on the display will then start blinking during the update.

  8. Please wait until the file copy and update procedures are completed.
    • File Copy: this step will be followed by an automatic system reboot (about 10 seconds).
    • Software Update: this step will also be followed by an automatic system reboot (about 30 seconds).
    • The Demonstration mode will then start.

Step 2: Confirm that the update was successful

  1. Check the firmware version. If the version number is SYS 6.04, the firmware update was successful.

Troubleshooting

If "File Error" or "No File" or "Read Error"/"Push POWER" is displayed during the update, the software update failed.

  1. Confirm your update file is correct and placed in the root directory of your USB flash drive, and try the previous steps again.
  2. If you still cannot perform the update, please try again using another USB storage device.
