Before You Start

Important Notes

  • The Auto Transfer program is not compatible with Macintosh® computers, Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows NT, or any operating system other than those listed in the System Requirements section above.
  • During the installation of this file, be sure that you are logged in as the Administrator or as a user with Administrative rights.
  • To ensure that no other program interferes with the installation, save all work and close all other programs. The Taskbar should be clear of applications before proceeding.
  • It is highly recommended to print out these instructions as a reference during the installation process.

    NOTE: 64 Bit versions of the operating system are not supported.

  • Hared Disk Drive: 200 MB or more of available space (1.5 GB or more is recommended)

Download and Installation Instructions

  1. To ensure that no other program interferes with the installation, save all work and close all other programs. The Taskbar should be clear of applications before proceeding.
  2. Download the AutoTransfer_NWDE020F.exe file to a temporary or download directory (please note this directory for reference).
  3. Go to the directory where the file was downloaded and double-click the AutoTransfer_NWDE020F.exe file to begin the installation process.
  4. The "Auto Transfer InstallShield Wizard" will start. At the "InstallShield Wizard Complete" screen, click "Finish".
    NOTE: Depending on your computer configuration, the InstallShield Wizard window may close automatically.
  5. A new "Auto Transfer" folder is created in the same folder as the AutoTransfer_NWDE020F.exe file. Open the "Auto Transfer" folder and locate the following:
    • AutoTransfer (folder)
    • Sony Setting (folder)
    • Autorun (file)
    • AutoTransfer (file)
  6. Connect the Walkman® player to the computer via the USB port.
    NOTE: The player will appear in "My Computer" as "WALKMAN" or as "Removable Disk".
  7. Copy the four items from the "Auto Transfer" folder ("Auto Transfer", "Sony Setting", "Autorun", and "AutoTransfer") to the player.
    NOTE: Be sure to copy the four items to the root folder. Do not copy them to a sub folder on the player.

Installation of the Auto Transfer Program is complete.

How to Use the Auto Transfer Program

  1. Connect the Walkman player to the computer via the USB port.
  2. At the "What do you want Windows to do?" screen, select "WALKMAN Auto Transfer", and then click "OK".
    NOTE: If the select screen does not appear, browse to the player in "My Computer" and double-click "AutoTransfer.exe" to start the program.
  3. The first time you use the Auto Transfer program, follow the onscreen prompts to select the folders on the computer from which music files should be automatically transferred to the Walkman player.
    NOTES:
    • By default the "My Music" and "Desktop" folders are selected.
    • You can add additional folders, or remove the default folders, in the "Settings" screen.
    • To specify file types to be transferred, or folders to use on the player, click "Advanced" and follow the onscreen prompts to make your choices.
  4. At the "Settings" screen, click "OK" to start the transfer.
  5. When the transfer finishes, the number of files transferred is displayed along with the message, "Transfer completed."
  6. Click the "X" in the upper right hand corner to close the Auto Transfer program window.
    NOTE: Even though the window is closed, the Auto Transfer program is still running. To quit the Auto Transfer program, right click the Walkman icon in the computer system tray, and then select "Exit Application" from the menu.
