System Software Update

Download and Transfer the Update File to Your USB Storage Device

1. Download the sony_tvupdate_2012_4004_cpf_auth.zip file to a temporary or download directory (please note this directory for reference) on your computer.
2. Go to the directory where the file was downloaded and verify that the size of the sony_tvupdate_2012_4004_cpf_auth.zip file is 32,001,331 bytes.
   1. Right-click the sony_tvupdate_2012_4004_cpf_auth.zip file, and click Properties.
   2. On the sony_tvupdate_2012_4004_cpf_auth.zip Properties screen, verify that the Size: listed is 30.5 MB (32,001,331 bytes).
      Note: The Size on disk: listed may be different. That is normal.
   3. If the file size is different than the 32,001,331 bytes, please download the sony_tvupdate_2012_4004_cpf_auth.zip file again.
3. Extract the update file from the sony_tvupdate_2012_4004_cpf_auth.zip file.
   • For Microsoft® Windows Vista® or Windows® 7 operating system:
     1. Go to the directory where the file was downloaded and right-click the sony_tvupdate_2012_4004_cpf_auth.zip file, and then click Extract All.
     2. At the Extract Compressed (Zipped) Folders window, click Extract.
     3. A new folder will be created called ony_tvupdate_2012_4004_cpf_auth.
   • For Microsoft® Windows® XP operating system:
     1. Go to the directory where the file was downloaded and right-click the sony_tvupdate_2012_4004_cpf_auth.zip file, and then click Extract All.
     2. At the Extraction Wizard dialog box, click Next.
     3. Click Next.
     4. Click Finish.
     5. A new folder will be created called ony_tvupdate_2012_4004_cpf_auth.
4. Connect a compatible USB storage device to your computer.
   Note: A USB storage device, such as a Sony® Micro Vault® device, or something similar, is required to perform the update. Sony is aware that not all USB storage devices are compatible with our TVs. If you are using a USB device for playback of photos, music, or videos on your TV, the same USB device type should work for the update. If the software update is not successful after following the instructions, you may need to format your device to the FAT32 file system, or use a different device. View formatting instructions.
5. Transfer the update file to the USB storage device by going to the download location and opening the folder that was created, right-click the sony_fw_2012_4004_cpf.pkg file and, from the menu, click Send To..., and then click the drive (EX: Removable Disk E:) that represents your USB device. The update file will be copied onto your USB device.
   Note: The update will not be performed if the file is not copied to the root directory of the USB device or if the name of the file is modified.
6. Remove the USB device from your computer.

Updating the Software

The software update takes up to three minutes to complete. During the update process, the screen on your television will display progress information, or may be blank. This is normal. Please do not remove the USB storage device until the update is complete.

WARNING: Do not power off the TV or disconnect it from the AC power source during the upgrade process. Loss of power during the installation of the firmware upgrade may cause the TV to be unusable and require repair.

WARNING: Do not press any button, except as instructed, until the update is complete. Doing so may damage your TV and make it unusable and require service.

Make sure no other USB devices are connected to the TV before starting the firmware update.

1. Ensure the TV is in Standby mode. If your TV is powered on, press the Power button on the remote commander to put the TV in Standby mode.
2. Insert the USB storage device containing the update file into USB port located on the side panel of the TV.
   Note: The USB storage device can only be inserted into the USB port slot one way.
   
3. Power on the TV using the Power button on the remote commander.
4. During the update the POWER indicator will be green for 10 seconds, followed by the STANDBY indicator coming on, and then the PIC OFF/TIMER indicator slowly blinking orange. After several minutes, the firmware update will finish and the TV will automatically turn on to complete the update.
   

5. During the firmware installation process, do not remove the USB device, turn off the TV, or disconnect the TV from the power supply.

6. After the firmware update is finished, remove the USB device from the TV, and then use the remote to power off the TV and then power back on.
7. You may delete the update file from the USB device, or reformat the USB device.
8. The update process is now complete.
   Note: If either message An error occurred during the software update or Software cannot be updated using this USB device is displayed on the TV screen, please proceed to the following procedure for a possible solution:
9. 1. Verify your USB device is in good working order and perform the Download and Transfer process again.
   2. Press the POWER button on the TV to power off the TV.
   3. Press the POWER button on the TV again to power on the TV.
   4. Perform the Updating the Software process again.
      Note: If the message No newer version of the TV software was found is displayed on the TV screen, your TV already has the newer firmware installed.

Update Verification (optional)

Please follow the steps below to verify that the software was successfully updated:

1. Power on the TV.
2. On the TV remote control, press the HOME button to open the TV Home Menu.
3. On the remote control, use the arrows to select the Settings icon , and then press the EXECUTE button .
4. Use the arrows to highlight the Setup icon , and then press the EXECUTE button.
5. Use the arrows to highlight Product Support, and then press the EXECUTE button.
6. Use the arrows to highlight Contact Sony, and then press the EXECUTE button.
7. Check the Software Version displayed on the Contact Sony screen. If your software version is v4.004 or higher, the update was successful.
