How to Check if You Need the Update

Please follow the steps below to check your television's software version to determine if it needs this software update:

1. Power on the TV.
2. On the TV remote control, press the "HOME" button to open the TV Home Menu.
3. On the remote control, use the arrows to select the Settings icon , and then press the EXECUTE Button .
4. Use the arrows to highlight the Setup icon , and then press the EXECUTE Button .
5. Use the arrows to highlight "Product Information", and then press the EXECUTE Button .
6. Check the Software Version displayed on the Product Information screen. If your software version is v3.004 or higher, your TV does not need this update.
   
   

Download and Transfer the Update File to Your USB Storage Device

1. Download the sony_tvupdate_2012_3004_p2f_cof.zip file to a temporary or download directory (please note this directory for reference) on your computer.
2. Go to the directory where the file was downloaded and verify that the size of the sony_tvupdate_2012_3004_p2f_cof.zip file is 32,334,813 bytes.
   1. Right-click the sony_tvupdate_2012_3004_p2f_cof.zip file, and click "Properties".
   2. On the "sony_tvupdate_2012_3004_p2f_cof.zip Properties" screen, verify that the "Size:" listed is "30.8 MB (32,334,813 bytes)".
      Note: The "Size on disk:" listed may be different. That is normal.
   3. If the file size is different than the "32,334,813 bytes", please download the sony_tvupdate_2012_3004_p2f_cof.zip file again.
3. Extract the update file from the sony_tvupdate_2012_3004_p2f_cof.zip file.
   • For Microsoft® Windows Vista® or Windows® 7 operating system:
     1. Go to the directory where the file was downloaded and right-click the sony_tvupdate_2012_3004_p2f_cof.zip file, and then click "Extract All.
     2. At the "Extract Compressed (Zipped) Folders" window, click "Extract"
     3. A new folder will be created called "sony_tvupdate_2012_3004_p2f_cof"
   • For Windows XP operating system:
     1. Go to the directory where the file was downloaded and right-click the sony_tvupdate_2012_3004_p2f_cof.zip file, and then click "Extract All.
     2. At the "Extraction Wizard" dialog box, click "Next".
     3. Click "Next".
     4. Click "Finish".
     5. A new folder will be created called "sony_tvupdate_2012_3004_p2f_cof"
4. Connect a compatible USB storage device to your computer. View formatting instructions.
5. Transfer the update file to the USB storage device by going to the download location and opening the folder that was created, right-click the sony_fw_2012_3004_cof.pkg file and, from the menu, click "Send To...", and then click the drive (EX: Removable Disk E:) that represents your USB device. The update file will be copied onto your USB device.
   Note: The update will not be performed if the file is not copied to the root directory of the USB device or if the name of the file is modified.
6. Remove the USB device from your computer.
7. Please continue to the next section.

Update Verification (optional)

Updating the Software

The software update takes up to three minutes to complete. During the update process, the screen on your BRAVIA television will display progress information, or may be blank. This is normal. Please do not remove the USB storage device until the update is complete.

WARNING! Do not power off the TV or disconnect it from the AC power source during the upgrade process. Loss of power during the installation of the firmware upgrade may cause the TV to be unusable and require repair.

WARNING! Do not press any button, except as instructed, until the update is complete. Doing so may damage your TV and make it unusable and require service.

Make sure no other USB devices are connected to the TV before starting the firmware update.

1. Ensure the TV is in Standby mode. If your TV is powered on, press the power button on the remote commander to put the TV in Standby mode.
2. Insert the USB storage device containing the update file into USB port located on the side panel of the TV.
   Note: The USB storage device can only be inserted into the USB port slot one way.
   
3. Power on the TV using the power button on the remote commander.
4. During the update the POWER indicator will be green for 10 seconds, followed by the STANDBY indicator coming on, and then the PIC OFF/TIMER indicator slowly blinking orange. After several minutes, the firmware update will finish and the TV will automatically turn on to complete the update.
   

5. CAUTION: During the firmware installation process, do not remove the USB device, turn off the TV, or disconnect the TV from the power supply.

6. After the firmware update is finished, remove the USB device from the TV, and then use the remote to power off the TV and then power back on.
7. You may delete the update file from the USB device, or reformat the USB device.
   
   The update process is now complete.

   Note: If either message "An error occurred during the software update" or "Software cannot be updated using this USB device" is displayed on the TV screen, please proceed to the following procedure for a possible solution:
9. 1. Verify your USB device is in good working order and perform the "Download and Transfer" process again.
   2. Press the "POWER" button on the TV to power off the TV.
   3. Press the "POWER" button on the TV again to power on the TV.
   4. Perform the "Updating the Software" process again.
      Note: If the message "No newer version of the TV software was found" is displayed on the TV screen, your TV already has the newer firmware installed.

Please follow the steps below to verify that the software was successfully updated:

1. Power on the TV.

4. Use the arrows to highlight the Setup icon , and then press the EXECUTE Button .

6. Check the Software Version displayed on the Product Information screen. If your software version is v3.004 or higher, your TV does not need this update.
