This utility updates the Walkman® player to firmware version 2.04 and provides the following benefits:Improvements over version 2.03:

Before You Start
Applicable Models
This firmware update is intended only for NWZ-Z1000 series Walkman® Digital Media players. Please follow the steps below to check the model and firmware version of your player.
Note: This update is not necessary if your Walkman player has already been updated by the automatic firmware update function to version 2.04.
- At the Home screen, tap the "Menu" button.
- At the Menu screen, tap "Settings" and then "About device".
- Confirm that the Model number is NWZ-Z1000 Series, and the build number is lower than 2.04.
If the Build number is 2.04 or higher, do not attempt to install this update.
Important Notes
- It is strongly recommended that you transfer all tracks and data from the player to the computer before performing this update. Tracks and data that remain on the player may be damaged or deleted during the update process.
- In order to install this update, there must be at least 310 MB of free space on the player.
Please follow the steps below to check the amount of free space on the player:- At the Home screen, tap the "Menu" button.
- At the Menu screen, tap "Settings" and then "Storage".
- Under "USB storage" confirm that the "Available Space" is at least 310 MB.
- Confirm that the low free space notification icon does not appear on the status bar. If internal storage free space is less than 10% (approx. 100MB), the system may not boot properly, or settings and application data may not be inherited properly.
- When updating from firmware versions less than 2.00, please note the following:
- Important: Applications that you have installed yourself may no longer be usable after applying this update.
- The DLNA application will not playback WMA Pro content stored on another DLNA certified device.
- After completing the update, the sound effect settings (such as the Equalizer or Clear Stereo) will be returned their default settings. Any previous changes will have to be reset.
- After completing the update, the help guide can be read on the application list.
Note: When viewed in the Browser screen, an older help guide is displayed. - After completing the update, the volume may be louder than the previous settings when initially connecting your Bluetooth® device.
Note: To change the volume of a Bluetooth device using the volume button on the Walkman player, the Bluetooth device must support AVRCP (Audio Visual Remote Control Profile) VOLUME UP/DOWN features. If the Bluetooth device does not support AVRCP VOLUME UP/DOWN features, use the volume button on Bluetooth device to make a volume adjustment.
- During the installation of this file, be sure that you are logged in as the Administrator or as a user with Administrative rights.
- If you are using Windows 8/8.1, Windows 7 or Vista operating system, a User Account Control dialog box may be displayed. Click "Continue" or "Yes" to proceed.
- To ensure that no other program interferes with the installation, save all work and close all other programs. The Taskbar should be clear of applications before proceeding.
- It is highly recommended that you print out these instructions for use as a reference during the installation process.

Download and Installation Instructions
- It is strongly recommended that you transfer all tracks and data from the player to the computer before performing this update. Tracks and data that remain on the player may be damaged or deleted during the update process.
- To ensure that no other program interferes with the installation on the computer, save all work and close all other programs. The Taskbar should be clear of applications before proceeding.
- Click the "Download Now" to begin the download process.
- Read the Software Download License Agreement and, if you agree, click "Accept Agreement".
- Download the NWZ-Z1000_V2_04_0012.exe file to a temporary or download directory (please note this directory for reference).
- Note: Please follow the steps below for the firmware version currently installed.
- Walkman player with firmware version 2.00 or higher:

- On the Walkman player, at the Home screen, tap the "Menu" button.
- At the Menu screen, tap "System settings", then "Storage".
- Tap the "Menu" button, and then tap "USB computer connection".
- Tap "USB storage" to check this selection.
- Tap "Connection settings", then tap "USB auto connection" to uncheck this selection.
- Walkman player with firmware versions less than 2.00:

- On the Walkman player, at the Home screen, tap the "Menu" button.
- At the Menu screen, tap "Settings", then "Storage", and then "USB auto connection" to uncheck this selection.
- Connect your Walkman player to your computer using the supplied USB cable.
- On the Walkman screen, tap "Turn on USB Storage". When (*1) appears, tap "OK".
Note: If (*1) does not appear, swipe the status bar, tap "USB connected" on the notification panel, tap "Turn on USB storage", and then tap "OK". - Go to the directory where the file was downloaded and double-click the NWZ-Z1000_V2_04_0012.exe file to begin the installation.
- Carefully follow the onscreen prompts to complete the installation.
IMPORTANT: Do not disconnect the player from the computer while the update is in progress.
Note: During the update the USB connection is automatically controlled and the "Connecting USB" message is not displayed. On some computers a "USB Disconnect" message may be displayed. - When the Completed message is displayed, click "Finish".
- When lock screen appears on the Walkman player, drag (key mark) from left to right.
- When the update program displays "2.04" on the Walkman player, tap "OK".
- Return the "USB auto connection" setting to on.
Please follow the steps below: -
- From the Walkman Home screen, tap the "Menu" button, then tap "Settings", then "Storage".
- Tap the "Menu" button, and then tap "USB computer connection".
- Tap "Connection settings", and then "USB auto connection" to check this selection.
Confirm Successful Update (optional)
- At the Home screen, tap the "Menu" button.
- At the Menu screen, tap "Settings" and then "About device".
- If the Build number is 2.04, the update is successfully installed.
