    Benefits and improvements

    This utility installs an updated version of the BIOS to improve thermal management and system stability. This update also resolves the following issues:
    • Some USB devices are not recognized or detected after upgrading to Windows® 8.1
    • The touchscreen may not function after upgrading to Windows 8.1
    • The battery icon in the notification area is not available (grayed out)
    • The Home button does not function after the computer is switched to Tablet mode
    • The key combinations Ctrl + Shift + Arrow (left or right) do not function
    • A black screen may occur
    • The computer may not be able to power on after pressing the power button

    Important Notes

    • WARNING!!: Before installing this update, be sure the computer is running from AC power. If the installation of the BIOS is interrupted by power loss, the computer may not operate correctly or at all!
    • If the Microsoft® BitLocker™ security feature is being used, please turn it off before installing this update. The BitLocker feature may be turned on after this update is complete.
    • During the installation of this update:
      • Do not turn the computer off.
      • Do not allow the computer to enter Standby or Hibernation states.
      • Do not start other programs.
      • Do not connect any peripherals.
    • During the installation of this file, be sure that you are logged in as the Administrator or as a user with Administrative rights.
    • To ensure that no other program interferes with the installation, save all work and close all other programs. The Taskbar should be clear of applications before proceeding.
    • It is highly recommended that you print out these instructions for use as a reference during the installation process.

    Download and Installation Instructions

    1. WARNING!!: Before installing this update, be sure the computer is running from AC power. If the installation of the BIOS is interrupted by power loss, the computer may not operate correctly or at all!
    2. To ensure that no other program interferes with the installation, save all work and close all other programs. The Taskbar should be clear of applications before proceeding.
    3. Download the EP0000601165.exe file to a temporary or download directory (please note this directory for reference).
    4. Go to the directory where the file was downloaded and double-click the EP0000601165.exe file to begin the installation.
    5. At the "BIOS Update Warning" screen, read and follow the on-screen instructions, then click "OK".
    6. At the "User Account Control" screen, click "Yes".
    7. At the "VAIO® Firmware Update Tool" screen, verify that the version to be installed is R1140DD, then click "Update".
    8. At the "The system will restart. Are you sure you want to update the VAIO firmware?" dialog, click "OK".

    9. Note: The computer will automatically shutdown when the BIOS update is complete.

    10. After the computer shuts down, wait for 60 seconds, then power on the computer.

    After the computer restarts, the installation of the BIOS Update is complete.

    Please follow the steps below to verify that the installation was successful

    1. Launch the VAIO Care application.
    2. Double-click "About Your VAIO".
    3. Double-click "System Information".
    4. BIOS Version R1140DD is displayed.
