Important Notes

  • WARNING: After performing this update, it is not possible to return to or install a previous version of the system software. By downloading and installing this update, you acknowledge that you understand this update cannot be reversed.
  • WARNING: Please follow the upgrade instructions carefully. Failure to follow the instructions may interrupt the upgrade process and may cause the TV to be unresponsive or require repair.
  • WARNING: Do not power off the TV or disconnect it from the AC power source during the upgrade process. Loss of power during the installation of the firmware upgrade may cause the TV to be unresponsive or require repair.
  • All user settings are retained during the firmware update.
  • It is normal for the TV set to restart during the update process. The TV set may take longer than usual to restart as it is installing the new firmware.
  • To download the update, a USB storage device, such as a Sony® Micro Vault® device, or something similar, is required to perform the update. Sony is aware that not all USB storage devices are compatible with our TVs. If you are using a USB device for playback of photos, music, or videos on your TV, the same USB device type should work for the update.
  • It is highly recommended that you print out these instructions for use as a reference during the installation process.

How to Check if You Need the Update

Please follow the steps below to check your television's software version to determine if it needs this software update:

  1. Power on the TV.
  2. On the TV remote control, press the HOME button to display the Home Menu.
  3. On the remote control, use the arrows Remote Arrow Buttons to select Settings, and then press the Enter plus sign button button.

    Note: If your software version is v5.302 or higher, your TV does not need this update.

Download and Transfer the Update File to Your USB Storage Device

  1. Download the sony_tvupdate_2015_5302_olf_auth.zip file to a temporary or download directory (please note this directory for reference) on your computer.
  2. Go to the directory where the file was downloaded and verify that the size of the sony_tvupdate_2015_5302_olf_auth.zip file is 42,199,751 bytes.
    1. Right-click the sony_tvupdate_2015_5302_olf_auth.zip file, and click Properties.
    2. On the sony_tvupdate_2015_5302_olf_auth.zip Properties screen, verify that the Size: listed is 40.2 MB (42,199,751 bytes).
      Note: The Size on disk: listed may be different. That is normal.
    3. If the file size is different than 42,199,751 bytes, please delete the downloaded file, clear your Internet browser cache, and then download the sony_tvupdate_2015_5302_olf_auth.zip file again.
  3. Extract the update folder from the sony_tvupdate_2015_5302_olf_auth.zip file.
    • For Microsoft® Windows® operating systems:
      1. Go to the directory where the file was downloaded and right-click the sony_tvupdate_2015_5302_olf_auth.zip file, and then click Extract All.
        Note: For Windows 8/8.1 and 10, the default settings for Internet Explorer® will save the file in the Downloads folder. For Windows 10, use File Explorer to locate the Downloads folder, for Windows 8/8.1, click the Desktop tile from the Start screen and then locate the downloaded file using Windows Explorer.
      2. At the Extract Compressed (Zipped) Folders screen, click Extract.
      3. A new folder will be created called sony_dtv02B10B05B1B5_00200204 to be copied to the USB storage device.
    • For Apple® Mac OS X® operating systems:
      1. Go to the location where the file was downloaded and double-click the sony_tvupdate_2015_5302_olf_auth.zip file.
      2. A new folder will be created called sony_dtv02B10B05B1B5_00200204 to be copied to the USB storage device.
  4. Connect a compatible USB storage device to your computer. If you are using a USB device for playback of photos, music, or videos on your TV, the same USB device type should work for the update.
    Note: Make sure that there is enough space on your USB device.
  5. Transfer the update folder to the USB storage device:
    • For Windows operating systems: Go to the location where the folder was created and right-click the sony_dtv02B10B05B1B5_00200204 folder, and from the menu, click Send To..., and then click the drive (for example: Removable Disk E:) that represents your USB device. The folder will be copied onto your USB device.
    • For Mac OS X operating systems: Go to the location where the folder was created and drag and drop the sony_dtv02B10B05B1B5_00200204 folder to the root directory of the USB device.
    Note: The update will not be performed if the folder is not copied to the root directory of the USB device or if the folder structure, name of the folder, or name of the file inside the folder is modified.


  6. Remove the USB device from your computer.
  7. Please continue to the next section.

Updating the Software

  • WARNING: Do not power off the TV or disconnect it from the AC power source during the upgrade process. Loss of power during the installation of the firmware upgrade may cause the TV to be unusable and require repair.
  • WARNING: Do not press any button, except as instructed, until the update is complete. Doing so may damage your TV and make it unusable, or require service.

The firmware update process may take up to 3 minutes. It is recommended you completely read the instruction below before beginning the update process.

  1. Power on the TV.
  2. Make sure no other USB devices are connected to the TV.
  3. Insert the USB storage device containing the sony_dtv02B10B05B1B5_00200204 folder into the USB port located on the side of the TV.

    Note: The USB storage device can only be inserted into the USB port slot one way.
  4. On the TV remote control, press the HOME button.
  5. At the Home menu, use the arrows Remote Arrow Buttons buttons on the remote control to select Settings, and then press the Enter Plus Sign Button button.

  6. Use the arrows to select Customer Support, and then press the Enter Plus Sign Button button.

  7. Use the arrows to select Software Update, and then press the Enter Plus Sign Button button.

  8. A series of different messages will appear on the TV set. Please follow the on screen instructions.
  9. During update process, the LED indicator will slowly flash in amber. After several minutes the update will finish and TV will turn off automatically and then back on to complete the update.
    CAUTION: DO NOT REMOVE THE USB DEVICE OR TURN OFF THE TV UNTIL THE UPDATE IS COMPLETE.
  10. After the update completes and the TV restarts, you may safely remove your USB device from the USB slot.

The firmware update process is now complete.

Update Verification (optional)

Please follow the steps below to verify that the software was successfully updated:

  1. Power on the TV.
  2. On the TV remote control, press the HOME button to open the Home Menu.
  3. On the remote control, use the arrows Remote Arrow Buttons to select Settings, and then press the Enter Plus Sign Button button.

Possible Issues During Upgrade

Either message, An error occurred during the software update or Software cannot be updated using this USB device is displayed on the TV.

Resolution:
  1. Verify your USB device is in good working order and then perform the download and update process again.
  2. Power off the TV by pressing the POWER button on the TV set, and then press the POWER button again to power on the TV.
  3. Proceed with the installation process again.
  4. If the message No newer version of the TV software was found is displayed on the TV, your TV already has the newer firmware installed.
