    Benefits and improvements

    This utility installs an updated version of the BIOS to add support for the Windows® 8.1 and Windows 10 operating systems, and improve the performance of the computer. This update also resolves the following issues:

    • Improves computer performance
    • The Touch screen may not function after logging off or switching to a different user account
    • While the computer is in powered OFF mode (S5), the computer automatically wakes up when the keyboard is detached
    • When the battery capacity is below 30%, USB charged devices may stop charging
    • The computer may not power on after pressing the power button
    • The computer may randomly shutdown
    • The keyboard battery may not charge properly when attached to the computer

    Important Notes

    • WARNING: Before installing this update, be sure the computer is running from AC power. If the installation of the BIOS is interrupted by power loss, the computer may not operate correctly or at all!
    • During the installation of this update:
      • Do not turn the computer off.
      • Do not allow the computer to enter Standby or Hibernation states.
      • Do not start other programs.
      • Do not connect any peripherals.
    • During the installation of this file, be sure that you are logged in as the Administrator or as a user with Administrative rights.
    • To ensure that no other program interferes with the installation, save all work and close all other programs. The Taskbar should be clear of applications before proceeding.
    • It is highly recommended that you print out these instructions for use as a reference during the installation process.

    Download and Installation Instructions

    1. WARNING: Before installing this update, be sure the computer is running from AC power. If the installation of the BIOS is interrupted by power loss, the computer may not operate correctly or at all!
    2. To ensure that no other program interferes with the installation, save all work and close all other programs. The Taskbar should be clear of applications before proceeding.
    3. Download the EP0000601224.exe file to a temporary or download directory (please note this directory for reference).
    4. Go to the directory where the file was downloaded and double-click the EP0000601224.exe file to begin the installation.
    5. If a WARNING note for Microsoft® BitLocker™ security is displayed, please read and follow the on-screen instructions, and then click OK to continue.
    6. At the User Account Control screen, click Yes.
    7. At the VAIO® Firmware Update Tool screen, confirm that the version to be installed is R1170V8, then click Update.
    8. At the The system will restart. Are you sure you want to update the VAIO firmware? dialog, click OK.

    9. Note: The computer will automatically shutdown when the BIOS update is complete.

    10. After the computer shuts down, wait for 60 seconds, then power on the computer.

    After the computer restarts, the installation of the BIOS Update is complete.

    Verify the Installation

    Please follow the steps below to verify that the installation was successful

    1. Search for and open VAIO Care (Desktop), and then open Sony Apps.
    2. In Sony Apps, click About Your VAIO.
    3. In About Your VAIO, click System Information.
    4. Verify that the file version is R1170V8.
