    Before You Start


    Determine if Your Camera Needs the Update

    This update only applies to ILCE-7 cameras that currently have a firmware version 3.10 or earlier. If your camera firmware version is already version 3.20, this update is not necessary.

    1. Turn on the camera.
    2. Press the Menu button.
    3. At the Menu screen, use the Control Wheel to select Setup, and then press the center button of the Control Wheel.
    4. At the Setup screen, use the Control Wheel to scroll to Version, and then press the center button of the Control Wheel.
    5. The firmware version is displayed on the LCD screen.

    6. If the current firmware version is 3.20 or higher, the camera does not need this update.
    7. Press the center button of the Control Wheel to close the version number display.

    Before You Start

    • Follow the update instructions carefully.
    • Remove the memory card from the camera.
    • This update process requires the following items for proper updating:
      • A computer with:
        • Available Hard Disk Space: 200 MB or more
        • Installed Memory (RAM): 512 MB or more
        • A USB port.
        • One of the following Microsoft® Windows® operating systems installed:
          • Windows 10
          • Windows 8.1
          • Windows 7 (with Service Pack 1)
      • Camera power supply: When performing the firmware update, use a fully charged NP-FW50 rechargeable battery pack, or the AC-PW20 AC adapter/charger (sold separately).
      • USB cable:
        • Use only the USB cable supplied with the camera.
          Note: Update functionality is not guaranteed with any other USB cable.
    • WARNING!
      • This Digital Camera firmware update and any changes incurred by it are permanent. It is not possible to return to a previous firmware version after updating this firmware. By continuing this update process and downloading and updating this firmware, you acknowledge that you are aware and understand that this update cannot be reversed.
      • Do not operate, power off, or disconnect the Digital Camera from the AC power outlet until after the update is complete.
      • Failure to follow the instructions, or an interruption in the update process, may cause the player to become unresponsive or to require repair.
      • Do not allow the computer to enter Sleep (Standby) mode during the update process. To change your settings, please refer to your computer manual or consult the manufacturer.
    • Contact our Support team if you need assistance with the upgrade.

    Download & Install


    Download and Update the Firmware

    1. Download the Update_ILCE7V320.exe file to a temporary or download directory (please note this directory for reference).
    2. Go to the directory where the file was downloaded and double-click the Update_ILCE7V320.exe file to begin the Firmware Updater.
    3. Turn on the camera.
    4. Press the Menu button.
    5. At the Menu screen, use the Control Wheel to select Setup, and then press the center button of the Control Wheel.
    6. At the Setup screen, use the Control Wheel to scroll to USB Connection and verify that Mass Storage is selected.

    7. Connect the camera to your computer using the supplied USB cable.
      Notes:
      • The LCD screen on the camera will turn off when it is connected to the computer.
      • If the computer cannot find the camera, the message Could not find the camera for this update appears on the computer display. Please try the following:
        • Disconnect and reconnect the USB cable to the camera.
        • If the computer has additional USB ports, try connecting the USB cable to different USB port.
    8. Verify that the Safely Remove Hardware icon Safely Remove Hardware Icon or Safely Remove Hardware Icon is displayed in the task tray at the lower right-hand corner of the computer screen.
      Note: Even if the Safely Remove Hardware icon is not displayed on the task tray, please proceed to the next step.
    9. At the Firmware Updater screen, click Next.

    10. When the updater recognizes the camera connection, the message Follow computer instructions is displayed on the camera screen.

    11. At the Firmware Updater screen, click Next.

    12. When the next screen is displayed, click Next to continue.
    13. Reset the camera:
      1. In the task tray at the lower right hand corner of the computer screen, click the Safely Remove Hardware icon Safely Remove Hardware Icon or Safely Remove Hardware Icon to stop the USB connection.
        Note: Even if the Safely Remove Hardware icon is not displayed on the task tray, please proceed to the next step.
      2. On the camera, at the Resets device message, press the center button of the Control Wheel to reset the camera.

        Note: The screen turns off when the center of the control wheel is pressed. Please proceed to the next step.
    14. At the Firmware Updater screen, click Next.

    15. After resetting, reconnection of the camera is verified, and when the next Firmware Updater screen is displayed, click Run.

      Note: The progress bar appears while updating (approximately 15 minutes).
    16. When the update has completed, the camera will automatically restart. This restart may take a few minutes, make sure to wait for the camera screen to power back on before you continue. Once the camera screen is back on, click Finish.

    17. Note: After automatically restarting, the message Recovering data. Please wait... may appear on the camera screen.

    18. Click the Safely Remove Hardware icon Safely Remove Hardware Icon or Safely Remove Hardware Icon in the task tray to stop the USB connection.
      Note: Even if the Safely Remove Hardware icon is not displayed on the task tray, please proceed to the next step.
    19. Disconnect the USB cable.
    20. Check the current firmware version to confirm that the update has successfully installed.
      • If the last four digits of the version number are 3.20, the firmware update was successful.
      • If the last four digits of the version number are not 3.20, download and install the update again.
