IMPORTANT:
- Some newer computers have fixed batteries that you can't remove or reinstall. If this is the case with your computer, follow the steps for computer models with a non-removable battery pack.
- Check the Users Guide to see if your computer includes the Battery Care Function utility.

For computer models with a removable battery pack:
Note: Because each of these steps represents a possible solution to this issue, check the power status after you complete each step.
- Make sure to disable the Battery Care Function utility.
Note: If the Battery Care Function utility is enabled, the battery will not reach a 100%. This utility limits the amount of the battery charge to help extend the useful life of the battery.
- Unplug the AC adapter for ten minutes.
- Remove the battery and disconnect all peripheral devices from the computer.
Note: Refer to the computer manual if you aren't sure about the proper way to remove and reinsert the battery or connect the AC Adapter.
- Reinsert the battery and plug the AC Adapter in.
Note:
- Make sure you properly plugged in the AC adapter into the computer and directly into a wall outlet, and you installed the battery pack properly.
- If the battery charges correctly when you plug the AC adapter directly into a working wall outlet but not when plugged into a power strip or surge protector, the problem is with the power strip or surge protector and not the computer battery or AC adapter.
- After you plug it in, make sure that the AC adapter box power light (an illuminated green light) is on. If the AC adapter power light isn't on, either you didn't connect the AC adapter correctly or the AC adapter and power cord are defective and require replacement. Go to Parts and Accessories.
- If the AC adapter power light is on but the computer doesn't turn on, or turns on but the battery indicator light doesn't blink, then the battery is defective and you need to replace it. Go to Parts and Accessories.
- If another supported battery is available, try to use that battery.
Note: If the computer starts with the second battery installed, then the first battery is defective.
- Remove the battery pack and unplug the AC adapter again, and then plug only the AC adapter to the computer.
- If the computer starts up with the AC adapter only, the battery is defective and requires replacement. Go to Parts and Accessories.
- If the computer doesn't start at all, then there are other problems and the computer may require service. Go to Product Repair.
- Allow the battery to charge for at least three hours.
Note: If after three hours the battery isn't at least 50% charged, the battery is defective and requires replacement.

For computer models with a non-removable battery pack:

Press the battery reset button to perform power cycle on the laptop. Locate battery reset button and press it with a pin or straightened paper clip for five seconds to reset the battery.
- Unplug the AC adapter for ten minutes
Note: Refer to the computer manual if you aren't sure about the proper way to plug and unplug the AC Adapter.
- Disconnect all peripheral devices from the computer.
- Plug in the AC Adapter.
Note:
- If the battery charges correctly when you plug the AC adapter directly into a working wall outlet but not when plugged into a power strip or surge protector, the problem is with the power strip or surge protector and not the computer battery or AC adapter.
- After you plug it in, make sure that the AC adapter box power light (an illuminated green light) is on. If the AC adapter power light isn't on, either you didn't connect the AC adapter correctly or the AC adapter and power cord are defective and require replacement. Go to Parts and Accessories.
