Sony® VAIO® AC Power Adapter Replacement Program

Dear Sony Valued Customer,

Sony has initiated a voluntary recall for certain AC power adapters which may short circuit and pose a potential electrical shock hazard.

This only applies to AC power adapters model VGP-AC19V17 that were supplied with the following VAIO® all-in-one computers and docking stations:

  • All-in-one computers sold after September, 2007
    • VGC-LT series
    • VGC-JS240, VGC-JS250, VGC-JS270, and VGC-JS290 series
  • Notebook docking stations sold after September, 2005
    • VGP-PRBX1
    • VGP-PRFE1

Check Whether or Not Your AC Power Adapter is Affected

The voluntary recall only applies to VGP-AC19V17 AC Adapters with certain serial numbers. Select your AC Adapter part number from the drop-down boxes, type your serial number, and then click the Check AC Adapter button.

A3. Sony is replacing the affected AC adapters because they may potentially short circuit and pose a potential electrical shock hazard.


Q4. Are the AC power adapters subject to this recall safe?

A4. The AC power adapters in this recall may potentially short circuit and pose a potential electrical shock hazard. Therefore, if you confirm your adapter is affected, discontinue use immediately and order a replacement.


Q5. Can an affected AC power adapter be replaced in Latin America if the PC or docking station was purchased in another country?

A5. Yes.


Q6. Can I return the affected AC power adapter to the store where I purchased it, or at my nearest Sony Store?

A6. No, please either follow the instructions on this page or contact the Customer Service Center in your country to order a replacement adapter.


Q7. Are any other AC adapter models affected by this issue?

A7. No.


Q8. I have both an AC adapter for my notebook and my docking station, may I use the notebook adapter to power my docking station.
