The TV turns on or off automatically.

Follow the steps below to troubleshoot this issue.

Note: Your TV model may not contain the features required to complete the steps. Check your manual for model-specific information. Manuals are posted on your model support page.

    1. Update the TV software to the latest version.
    2. Make sure the power cord is plugged in all the way.
      1. If the power cord is removable from the back of the TV, make sure that it is firmly plugged in.

      2. If a separate AC power adapter is used, check the connection between the adapter and power cord.

      3. Make sure that the power cord is plugged all the way into the wall outlet.
        • Remove any power strips, surge suppressors, or similar devices from the TV to verify that the problem isn't caused by these devices.
      4. Try a different wall outlet and make sure that it doesn't have a switch that turns the power on / off.

View picture of the power cord.

    3. Press the POWER button on the TV (not the button on the remote) to turn it on. If the TV turns on, the batteries in the remote may need to be replaced or there may be a problem with the remote control.
    4. Replace the batteries in the remote control and check if the problem persists. This tests whether the remote is malfunctioning, rather than the TV.
      • Repeat the procedure if you use a second remote control.
    5. Cover the remote sensor on the TV to check if the remote control is sending continuous commands to the TV.

      • This step won't work if the remote control isn't infrared (for example, a Touchpad Remote Control).

    6. Disconnect all external devices from the TV (USB, LAN connection, HDMI® connection, Antenna, etc.) except the power cord and turn the TV on. If the TV turns on and stays on, reconnect the devices one at a time until you find the device that's causing the issue.

    7. Follow these procedures if the TV turns on or off at regular intervals such as 30 minutes to an hour, or if the TV turns on or off when an HDMI-connected device is powered on or off:

      Note:

      • If your TV turns on or off at regular intervals, such as 30 minutes to an hour, it's likely caused by power saving functions such as Idle TV Standby, On Timer, and Sleep Timer.
      • If the TV turns on or off when an HDMI-connected device is powered on or off, check the Bravia Sync settings.

    8. Turn off the Wi-Fi® function of the TV.
    9. A network or broadcast update may have a problem that could be resolved by resetting the power of the TV. Refer to the following:
    10. Reset the TV to the original factory settings.

If the issue still occurs, the TV may need repair.  Go to Product Repair.
