How to get sound from headphones and the TV speakers at the same time

IMPORTANT: Some Android TV™ models released between 2018 to 2020 have different specifications. If your TV is listed below, refer to the No sound from the TV speakers and headphones or audio device when used at the same time article instead.

    • 2020: XH80_X80H, XH81, XH85_X85H_XH91, XH90_X90H_X91H_XH92, XH95_X95H (49/85), XH95_X95H (55/65/75), Z8H_ZH8, A8_A8H series TVs
    • 2019: A9G_AG9, XG85_X85G_U8G (55/65/75/85), XG95_X95G, Z9G_ZG9 series TVs
    • 2018: XBR A9F_AF9, Z9F_ZF9 series TVs

In order to hear sound from headphones and the TV speakers at the same time when watching TV or a movie, the source device must have multiple audio outputs.

Note: Some TV models can't output sound from both the headphones and the TV speakers at the same time. Check your device manuals for model-specific information.

    Connect the devices

This is a basic connection with wireless or wired headphones. If you use a device that shows a different connection, check your device manual for more details.

    1. Make sure the source device has multiple outputs.

      Note:

      • The input terminal label varies depending on the RF headphone model. Check your manual for model-specific information. Manuals are posted on your model support page.
      • Wireless headphones generally require a power connection. Check your manual to determine if it requires batteries or AC power connection.
      • Some headphones require a stereo mini plug connection instead of the common red and white composite connection. You may purchase it at most electronic retailers if it didn't come with your unit.

    5. Turn on your TV and set it to the input used in step 2.

    Adjust the TV setting

Older TV models don't come with the 3.5mm headphone output jack, so they don't have the Headphone speaker link option in the menu. For these TVs, the option for audio output would either be TV Speakers or Audio System.
